In a close decision, Atlantic Beach voters rejected the charter amendment to extend the Mayor’s term to 4 years.

As a service to Atlantic Beach voters, Beaches Watch sponsored a candidate forum for the Atlantic Beach candidates on the General Election ballot.  The Atlantic Beach candidate forum gives voters the opportunity to learn about the candidates and their platforms and positions on Atlantic Beach issues before the November 3 general election. LEARN ABOUT THE CHARTER AMENDMENT ON THE ATLANTIC BEACH BALLOT:

The Atlantic Beach Commission has placed a Charter amendment on the November 3 ballot to give voters the opportunity to change the length of the term of the Mayor. To read the exact language of the Charter amendment:

PROPOSED AMENDMENTS TO THE ATLANTIC BEACH CHARTER TO MODIFY THE MAYOR-COMMISSIONER TERMS OF OFFICE

Commencing with the election in November, 2022 shall Section 5 of the Atlantic Beach Charter be amended to: (1) extend the Mayor-Commissioner term of office from two to four years; (2) reduce the Mayor-Commissioner number of allowable consecutive terms from four to two terms; and (3) limit any Mayor-Commissioner holding office as of November, 2022, who has served two consecutive terms, to one additional consecutive four-year term?
