Topic: Learn About the 2024 State and Local Ballot Measures

The 2024 Primary is over and now it’s time for voters to prepare for the 2024 General Election. During the 2024 General Election, voters will be voting on several state and local ballot measures. To help voters understand the ballot measures, Beaches Watch will be hosting a meeting on Wednesday, September 4 at 7pm at the Beaches Branch Public Library, 600 Third Street, Neptune Beach, Florida. This meeting is open to the public.

All beaches voters will be voting on six state ballot measures on topics such as school board elections, hunting and fishing, legalization of marijuana, abortion, inflation adjustment for property tax exemptions, and campaign finance. Atlantic Beach voters will be voting on six Atlantic Beach charter amendments on topics including residency requirements for candidates, primary and run-off elections, sale of public parks, environmental stewardship, charter committee review procedures and clarification of the City Clerk’s elections role. Jacksonville Beach voters will be voting on two Jacksonville Beach charter amendments to remove all gender references and remove conflicting language associated with the filling of a vacancy in the office of the mayor.

At the Beaches Watch meeting, Jacksonville Beach City Manager Mike Staffopoulos, will provide an unbiased explanation of the Jacksonville Beach charter amendments and Atlantic Beach City Manager, Bill Killingsworth, will provide an unbiased explanation of the Atlantic Beach Charter amendments.  Supervisor of Elections Jerry Holland will also be providing an unbiased explanation of all the state ballot measures.
