April 2006 – Beaches Watch has been selected by 1000 Friends of Florida to receive a Community Steward Award as part of 1000 Friends of Florida’s 2006 Better Communities Award Program. In a letter received from Charles Pattison, Executive Director for 1000 Friends of Florida, the letter states:
“This award is to recognize Beaches Watch’s outstanding work related to promoting smarter growth in Northeast Florida. Our Board of Directors was extremely impressed with the many accomplishments of Beaches Watch. We look forward to presenting the award in your community this summer.”
It is an honor for Beaches Watch to be recognized by such a great organization as 1000 Friends of Florida (www.1000fof.org). 1000 Friends of Florida is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization that was founded in 1986 to serve as Florida’s growth management “watchdog”.
Each year, 1000 Friends of Florida honors successful efforts to save special places, fight sprawl, and build better communities in our rapidly growing state. The Community Steward award is given to individuals, organizations, local governments, agencies and public/private partnerships that have brought about positive and lasting change in the way their community manages growth.
We should all be proud of our group for the lasting difference that we have made and continue to make through our efforts to promote community awareness and citizen participation in local issues that affect our beaches quality of life for us and future generations.
Congratulations to everyone in Beaches Watch for this outstanding and well-deserved recognition!!!
