On June 19, 2019, the three beaches mayors hosted a Sea Level Rise Symposium to discuss what is going on in our area regarding sea level rise vulnerability assessments and resources for making our communities more resilient. Two communities that have begun working toward improving their resiliency were on hand to discuss what they have done: Satellite Beach and St. Augustine.

There you’ll find original reporting about how the U.S. Navy, real estate agents, local governments, and others are grappling with the effects of climate change  — both current and predicted — on everything from endangered species to drinking water, coastal economies and historic sites.

You’ll also find curated stories about what’s happening in other places, from an island community in Maine that’s taking adaptation into its own hands, to houseboat builders in South Florida who are making the luxury version of the ark.

And although the challenges are great, we hope you’ll find the knowledge contained in this collection of stories empowering as we all face the rising waters together.
