Monthly Meeting Topic: A Thoughtful Conversation About Gun Issues
Speakers:
Dr. Robert Spitzer, Distinguished Service Professor and Chair of the Political Science Department at the State University of New York College at Cortland and author of the book “The Politics of Gun Control”
Jean Francis, Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America
Dale Carson, former police officer, instructor for the F.B.I. and current defense attorney
Dr. Robert Spitzer, a nationally-known expert on the origin and changes in our gun policies, will share how history has shaped our relationship with guns. Author of The Politics of Gun Control as well as a member of both the NRA and the Brady Center, Professor Spitzer’s even-handed treatment of the issue continues to compel national and international interest.
Jean Francis, representing Moms Demand Action, will explain the group’s legislative priority, their survivor’s network, and available educational programs for families and the community.
Dale Carson, former police officer, instructor for the F.B.I., and current defense attorney, will discuss how the massive public ownership of guns has changed the way our police forces are trained and deployed.
Without promoting or decrying gun ownership, our panelists will share experiences, insights, data, and wisdom gained about our present situation and associated challenges. As time allows, they will address audience questions.
