Beaches Watch Monthly Meeting

Topic: District 2 School Board Candidate Forum

Location: Fletcher High School Auditorium

Beaches Watch will host a District 2 School Board Candidate Forum Thursday, August 2 at 7pm at the Fletcher High School Auditorium, 700 Seagate Avenue, Neptune Beach. The forum is open to the public.

Beaches voters are invited to attend this forum to learn more about the District 2 School Board candidates. Candidates will have an opportunity to introduce themselves, tell voters what they plan to do if elected to the position, answer questions and provide candidate literature. Voters will also have an opportunity to meet the candidates before the forum from 6:30 to 7pm and after the forum from 8 to 8:30pm.

Candidates for the District 2 School Board seat are Liz Anderson, Casey Ayers, Shannon Beckham, Sam Hall and Nick Howland. The District 2 School Board seat is currently held by Scott Shine, who is not running for re-election. The District 2 School Board member represents Atlantic Beach, Jacksonville Beach, Neptune Beach, and Mayport schools as well as some schools west of the Intracoastal.

Early voting will be held Monday, August 13 through Sunday, August 26 from 10am to 6pm at the Beaches Branch Library, 600 3rd St., Neptune Beach. The primary election will be held on Tuesday, August 28. The deadline to for new voter registrations and party changes is July 30, 2018 and the deadline to request a ballot to be mailed is August 22, 2018. If no School Board candidate receives 50% plus one votes in the primary election, there will be a run-off election on November 6.

“We are grateful that all the District 2 School Board candidates will be attending this candidate forum so voters can learn about the candidates and make an informed decision on primary day,” said Beaches Watch Interim President Maria Mark.
